We are delighted to announce the impending arrival of Australian Liam Freeman (25) as our overseas player for 2018.
Liam grew up on a sheep station and was home schooled for 6 years before moving to Wentworth, New South Wales at the age of 11, boarding with family friends to attend high school.
His mother Caroline Freeman said “he had the cutest curls which I couldn’t bear to cut off, and thus, his first day at high school was sporting one of the best mullets in the outback. It wasn’t long before he was given his nickname, which he is still well known by today – MULLET.”
After years of back yard cricket with his dad Phil and brother Justin, he got his chance to play for Coomealla Wentworth, as a junior. He started as a bowler, but became very gangly (all arms and legs) and his action suffered, so became a batsman.
Liam has played for Coomealla Wentworth CC, Mildura since the 2007/2008 season. He is regarded as a useful top order batsman, who bowls a lively medium pace. He was joint leading wicket taker, this season, with his brother, Justin – having taken 18 league wickets in 12 matches, at an average of 17.61.
Last season, Liam finished as one of the top 10 players in the Sunraysia district. However, this year has been a difficult season with the bat.
Liam is due to arrive in the UK on the 18th April, in time for the first friendly at home against Broadbridge Heath, on Saturday 21st April.
We are extremely happy to have Liam represent the “Horses” and look forward to him (and the rest of the club) having a highly successful season.
His preferred drink is Scotch, but will also drink beers.
Welcome to Findon, Mullet !
Rest assured, we won’t be calling any of our league games off due to the temperature exceeding 43•C.
