On Sunday Findon beat last years finalists Rottingdean by 23 runs, in a tense Village Knockout final of the West Sussex region. Findon will now enter the national stages of the competition in 2 weeks time ( Sunday, 1st July), when will host either Mistley CC or Great  Waltham. Another great support will be much appreciated!!

Findon won the toss and VKO captain James Iago elected to bat on which turned out to be a very hard wicket to score runs on as it kept very low. Findon got off to an unfortunate start with Andy Boxall kicking a ball which was going down the leg-side on to his stumps. Bradley and Felix then built a steady partnership of 51 before Bradley (32) was caught at long on. Findon then lost 2 fairly quick wickets leaving Findon on 69-4 of around 20 overs with Mickey Demetriou entering the wicket. They then had a partnership of 37 before Mickey Demetriou (21) was caught just as it started to get going. With 10 overs to go Findon look to be aiming for a taget of around 160-170, however Rottingdean’s off-spinner George Ledden then took  4 more wickets reasonably quickly including the wicket of Felix Jordan (42) leaving the score at 122-8 with just a few overs left.  Barry Meaney and Owen Cave then added a useful 16 runs between them to leave Findon with a below par 138 all out.

After a fabulous tea, Rottingdean got off to a slow but steady start with a score of 56-1 off  20 overs. Straight after drinks, Felix Jordan then picked up 2 wickets in one over, before Harry Metters bowled the incoming batsman the over after. This lead Rottingdean on 57-4 off 22 overs with game in the balance. Findon then seemed to pick up wickets just a the right time with Rottingdean not really buiding any significant partnerships.  Mickey Demetriou got the next wicket as the batsman hit a full toss straight to Harry Metters who juggled the ball all over the place before holding it. James Iago and Mickey Demetriou picked up a wicket each before Felix got the crucial wicket of opening batsman Henry Ledden with around 7 overs to go. It now looked as though it was Findon who were on top with Rottingdean on 99-8. Mickey Demetriou cleaned bowled their next batsman, before he took the winning catch off James Iago’s bowling.
